In-Person Counseling in Our Large Offices at Our Primary Location on Kingston Pike.
Most people prefer in-personl counseling, while others need online counseling due to their distance from Counseling Connection, work schedule or other factors that preclude them from coming in person. Dr. Scoggins uses the high-back office chair while clients choose which sofa on which to sit. Forget the images that Hollywood portrays of clients laying on the sofa staring at the ceiling . . . that's not how it works. We prefer a relaxed atmosphere for clients to engage in the support they desire.
As you will see on our Providers page, Dr. Scoggins' typically uses a service dog at the Kngston Pike location. Ziva, our elderly black Great Dane, is a therapy dog that we have had at our office for more than eight years. As you will see on our Providers page, we also have a young black Great Dane, Lucy, who is a registered PTSD Service Dog for anxiety, stress and those who deal with PTSD. Yes, we have heard more times than we can count the old saying "I love Lucy" when clients have her at their side. We typically switch them out mid-afternoon so that they each only work a half day schedule. If you have allergies or simply prefer not to have a dog at your feet during the session, let us know and we will ensure no therapy dog is at your side for your session.
Melanie Nordstrom's office is co-located at Life Church on Cedar Lane, which enables play therapy with children in an environment in which they are comfortable. She provides support from children through adults at her location.
Sometimes it is a preference, other times it is a necessity.
There have been times in the past when we had clients call in to say that they cannot come in for their appointment that week because they are quarantined for COVID-19 exposure. Even in the years before COVID even existed, we had times when a client would call to say they or a member of their family were ill. Online counseling is a great option, as it prevents the "gift that keeps on giving" ... in other words, spreading of illnesses. However, health is not the only reason for telehealth sessions:
Especially with regards to the military, family members sometimes deploy to remote parts of the world and need to continue their progress. We have facilitated online sessions with a local spouse and the military member on the other side of the world. Once again, it is an excellent option available through our support.
Keep in mind, due to professional license restrictions, we are not allowed to provide online clinical counseling to people residing in other states in the U.S. As such, those who may have simply found our site by surfing the web will need to look for alternatives in the state in which they reside.
