It is quite common for Dr. Scoggins' husband, Tim, who is the Education & Career Counselor for Counseling Connection, to answer the appointment line for our operation. We keep two appointment records open - one for those who are municipal employees of the City of Knoxville or their family members who desire support using their EAP benefits through appointments either at The Center or the Kingston Pike office, and the other for all others who are not City of Knoxville employees or family members.
(Note: The best way to set an appointment with Melanie is to send her an email ato melanie@knoxcounseling.com and she will get back with you in-between clients.)
Dr. Scoggins accepts most major insurances, such as Blue Cross Blue Shield Tennessee, AETNA, Anthem, Humana, Humana EAP, TriCare, Value Options, Magellan EAP, Military One Source, and others. Check with your health care insurance provider to see if she is considered in network. Some use others, like Cigna, in which we were told they had enough providers and would not place her in network. In those cases, you may be able to have a higher co-pay or deductible to use Dr. Scoggins services out of network. Be sure to check first so you are not surprised when the bill is sent.
For medical billing, as well as to notify clients of co-pays and deductables due to Counseling Connection, we use Trinity Medical Billing. They send out bills to our clients once per month. For those clients that do not send in their payment by the end of the month, we must pay Trinity Medical Billing to send out reminder notices to each. So, to recoup the cost, our policy is that we add a ten dollar ($10) late fee each month to the amount owed. This is not a variable amount based on how much you owe (like credit card companies commonly do), but is a fixed amount for us to cover our administrative overhead for those who do not send in their payments in a timely manner. Avoid the service fee - send in your payment when you receive the bill in the mail!
